His Eminence Silouan has been serving as Metropolitan of the British Isles and Ireland since 2016. Originally from Latakia, Syria, Metropolitan Silouan holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tishreen University (1989-1994) and both a BA (1995-2000) and MA (2000-2005) in Theology from the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology at Balamand, Lebanon. He further pursued advanced theological studies, earning a PhD in Theology, Ethics, and Homiletics from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2005-2010).

Since 2000, he has served in various capacities, including as a parish priest in Syria and later as Abbot of the Patriarchal Monastery of St. George Al Humaira. He was also chaplain to Metropolitan John Mansour from 2010 to 2015. He has also been actively involved in the Orthodox Youth Movement serving as President of the Lataquieh Centre from 2001 to 2003.

Metropolitan Silouan was ordained to the episcopate on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the Monastery of St. George Al-Humraiyah in Syria. He was later enthroned as Metropolitan of the British Isles and Ireland on February 27, 2016, at the Cathedral Parish of St. George in London, where the Archdiocesan Headquarters and his residence are located.


 

Fr. Dmitry Ismagilov
Fr. Dmitry Ismagilov

Fr. Dmitry Ismagilov serves as Priest in Charge of St. Ignatios, Belfast, while his primary ministry is at St. George’s Cathedral Parish in London. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 25, 2024, by His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Fr. Dmitry is the Finance Officer for the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of the British Isles and Ireland. He holds a PhD in Political Economy from King’s College London and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at University College London, where he researches the governance of church finances in the Orthodox Church, both in contemporary and historical contexts.

Originally from Russia, Fr. Dmitry moved to the UK in 2015, where his encounter with Orthodox Christianity in Britain deepened his faith and inspired his journey to the priesthood.
